Marketing for the trades in New York.
New York covers everything from NYC five-borough density to upstate towns where you're the only contractor for 20 miles. We help NY trades owners run the right play for the market they're actually in.
New York spans extremes: NYC and Long Island operations typically need $8,000–$25,000/month (established firms $30,000–$75,000), while upstate metros like Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse compete efficiently at $2,500–$7,000. Google Local Service Ads and Business Profile drive downstate emergency work where paid search is expensive, so organic local SEO is the highest-ROI long-term play. NYC SEO is neighborhood-based, and a DCWP Home Improvement Contractor license is required for NYC work over $200.

New York is really five or six markets stacked under one state name. New York City and the inner suburbs (Westchester, Nassau, Suffolk) hold most of the population and drive premium pricing on every trade. Roughly 30% of New York's housing was built before 1940, which makes electrical-panel upgrades, plumbing replacements, lead-safe renovation, and old-roof work an endless pipeline. Greater NYC click costs on emergency trade keywords are among the highest in the country.
New York licensing is unusually fragmented because most contractor regulation happens at the city or county level rather than the state. NYC requires a Home Improvement Contractor license through the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) for any residential work over $200, with a written exam, $20,000 surety bond or Trust Fund enrollment, and EPA RRP certification. Long Island counties (Nassau and Suffolk) run their own contractor licensing, as do Westchester and several upstate cities. Electricians, plumbers, and a few other trades layer on city-level licensing in NYC. Knowing which credentials you need where is part of doing business here.
Upstate is a different country. Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Albany run on lower median home values, much cheaper click costs, and a more conservative homeowner. The Hudson Valley sits in between with second-home demand from NYC. The Catskills and North Country are rural with sparse competition.
Marketing channels that work in New York
| Channel | Best for | Time to results |
|---|---|---|
| Google Local Service Ads + GBP | NYC and Long Island emergency work | 2–6 weeks |
| Organic local SEO (neighborhood pages) | Highest-ROI long-term in the saturated downstate market | 4–12 months |
| Paid search | High-intent demand — expensive downstate, efficient upstate | 1–4 weeks |
| Meta retargeting | Higher-ticket remodel and roofing brands | 2–8 weeks |
New York metros we cover
New York's home-service economy concentrates in the NYC metro (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island, plus Nassau and Suffolk on Long Island and Westchester to the north) which together represent close to 12 million people and the most competitive home-service marketing environment in the country. The Hudson Valley adds second-home work driven out of NYC. Upstate, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Albany each support full-stack home-service economies at much lower price points and cheaper paid auctions. The Adirondacks, Catskills, and Finger Lakes regions add seasonal and second-home demand. One statewide ad plan does not work. The right approach builds dedicated playbooks for NYC, Long Island, Westchester, the Hudson Valley, and each upstate metro.

We help home-service businesses get found across New York — from New York and Buffalo to the surrounding suburbs, small towns, and rural communities in between. No metro is too big or too small.
