Marketing for the trades in Montana.
Montana looks rural on a map and behaves like five different markets in practice. Bozeman, Kalispell, and Missoula are tourism-and-second-home economies; Billings and Great Falls are not. We build for both.
Montana behaves like five markets: Bozeman, Kalispell, and Missoula (tourism and second homes) usually need $3,500–$9,000/month, Billings and Great Falls $2,500–$6,000, and Helena, Butte, and Havre can be very effective on $1,500–$3,500. In the competitive western markets LSA and Google Ads work hard; in smaller markets Google Business Profile and organic SEO beat paid on cost per lead by a wide margin. Facebook is strong statewide for trust and remarketing, and direct mail still works in rural communities. Contractor registration is required for any contractor with employees.

Montana hit about 1.14 million residents in 2024, and growth has slowed compared to the pandemic-era boom, but the boom permanently changed the home-service market in the western half of the state. Bozeman, Kalispell, and the Flathead Valley still have outsized second-home and short-term rental inventory, which means HVAC service, cleaning, handyman, and exterior maintenance demand runs at a much higher per-capita rate than the population suggests. Missoula is similar at a smaller scale.
Montana licensing is light at the state level. The Construction Contractor Registration through the Department of Labor and Industry is required for any contractor with employees and runs a $70 application fee. Independent contractors without employees can register voluntarily. Electricians and plumbers have separate state licenses. There's no statewide general contractor exam. The low regulatory bar means competitor density is higher than the population suggests, especially in the Bozeman and Flathead corridors.
Wildfire is the other shaper of the Montana home-service market. Defensible-space landscaping is a real, growing service category in the western mountain valleys, and homeowner insurance pressure is pushing more demand for fire-resistant landscaping, exterior treatments, and roof material upgrades. Montana allows local jurisdictions to adopt wildfire codes voluntarily, so the rules are uneven, but the customer demand is real and underserved.

Montana metros we cover
Montana's home-service map is shaped by geography and by which side of the state you're on. Billings is the largest city and the most diversified economy, with healthcare, energy, and ag driving steady demand. Bozeman, Kalispell, and the Flathead Valley are tourism and second-home driven, with disproportionately high demand for HVAC service, cleaning, and short-term rental support. Missoula is a university and healthcare town with a busy residential market. Helena is the state capital, smaller and steadier. Great Falls is a stable mid-sized market that's often underserved by serious digital marketing. Out east, Glendive and Miles City are small but loyal markets where a single well-run home-service business can effectively own the map pack.

We help home-service businesses get found across Montana — from Billings and Missoula to the surrounding suburbs, small towns, and rural communities in between. No metro is too big or too small.
